As we grow ourselves from childhood through adolescence and throughout adulthood, we have many opportunities to Transcend one level of development and to integrate a new and higher level. We also have opportunities to Transcend levels of understanding and become more expansive and at the same time more whole. The many areas in our lives that can grow and develop, such as our intellectual capicity, emotional maturity, sense of morality and ethical responsibility, sense of self and own needs, spirituality etc. are constantly giving us opportunities to become more inclusive, with a larger frame of reference and more resources from which to interact with the world. Healthy transcendence faces mental, emotional, social and systemic issues as they arise in the process, and integrate the lasting benefits whilst negating the partiality of the stage being transcended. Unhealthy transcendence leaves us disconnected from our true potentail as beings and a liability to the whole as we seek ineffective measures of releif from the confusion and pain which results from out partial insights and experiences. To Transcend is to move from one level of wholeness to a larger and more inclusive level of wholeness via a process of transformation and integration where we become more of ourselves and are able to 'be' more of the potential 'being' that we can become.
